In 2018 a total of 3.727 complaints and reports were received. Of these, 2.158 were handled without the intervention of the (chairman of the) Advertising Code Committee. The (chairman of the) Advertising Code Committee (RCC) and the Board of Appeal (CvB) have taken 783 decisions following a complaint. This involved 475 Chairman decisions.
In 86 cases several complaints of the same nature or scope against the same advertisement were lodged. These identical complaints (786 in total) are not all individually considered in the context of an effective complaints procedure, but the complainants receive the ruling made based on a similar complaint.
The plenary Advertising Code Committee has issued 286 decisions. 178 complaints were upheld and 103 complaints were dismissed (not upheld). Furthermore, the Committee took 3 interlocutory decisions. In 2018 4 rulings were published as an Alert (press release with summary of the judgment) and made available to a wide audience. The Board of Appeal (CvB) has made 22 decisions. This involved 13 recommendations (upheld) and 9 rejections (not upheld).
